Bourita: Morocco Considers the West Bank and Its Stability Essential for the Success of Any Process Related to Gaza

Express TV: Mustafa Filali

On Thursday in Rabat, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, affirmed that Morocco views the West Bank and its stability as crucial for the success of any initiative concerning Gaza.

During a joint press conference with Czech Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Petr Macháček, following their meeting, Bourita stated, “Morocco believes that the West Bank and its stability are fundamental for the success of any efforts related to Gaza.” He added, “What is happening in the Gulf region should not overshadow the situation regarding the Palestinian issue and the concerning developments witnessed in recent weeks, both in Gaza and the West Bank.”

Bourita emphasized that “there is currently an undermining and assault on stability in the West Bank through the passage of certain laws and provocative actions.” He referred to the confiscation of Palestinian lands in the West Bank and “the disgraceful actions carried out by Israeli settlers, including assaults, land confiscations, and targeting Palestinian citizens in the West Bank.”

He also pointed out the “attacks and restrictions on Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, especially during Ramadan,” noting that these “recent developments raise significant concern for the Kingdom of Morocco, given that His Majesty King Mohammed VI presides over the Al-Quds Committee.”

Bourita expressed hope that the region would regain its calm, allowing the implementation of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza in its second phase, preserving and ensuring stability in the West Bank.

The minister reiterated that addressing the Palestinian cause, as His Majesty the King often states, should not be approached from a situational or temporary perspective, stressing that the solution must always lie within the framework of a two-state solution: a Palestinian state along the borders of June 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side in stability and security with the State of Israel.

He confirmed the pressing need to maintain control in the Palestinian territories, emphasizing that preserving the authority and stability of the West Bank are essential components for managing the successful execution of the plan concerning Gaza.

Bourita considered that the weakening of the Palestinian Authority, ongoing provocations, and decisions undermining the stability of the West Bank “could also pose a risk to the success of any operations and plans concerning Gaza.”

Regarding the situation in the Gulf due to Iranian aggressions, the Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Morocco’s position and solidarity, rejecting these aggressions as expressed directly by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, stemming from the strong ties between Morocco and Gulf countries.
