The Head of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises Calls for Enhanced Cooperation in Preparation for the 2030 World Cup

On Tuesday in Sale, Chakib Laïlej, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), called for the establishment of a concrete and effective framework for cooperation among the companies of the countries hosting the 2030 World Cup, in order to enhance their competitiveness and capitalize on the economic opportunities provided by this global event.

This announcement was made during the opening of the Moroccan–Spanish–Portuguese Business Forum on the 2030 World Cup, which was jointly organized by the CGEM, the Spanish Confederation of Employers’ Organizations (CEOE), and the Portuguese Confederation of Businesses (CIP).

Laïlej noted that this framework would enable companies, particularly very small, small, and medium enterprises, to collaborate, form partnerships, and position themselves to benefit from World Cup-related opportunities. He added, “Uniting our efforts, sharing our expertise, and building joint projects will enhance the impact of the companies in the three countries, strengthen their resilience, and increase their competitiveness.”

He emphasized that the 2030 World Cup is not just a transformative effort in itself, but rather “accelerates and strengthens the existing dynamics of transformation,” with the Moroccan private sector playing a pivotal role in translating these ambitions into tangible projects, productive investments, and sustainable job opportunities.

Laïlej also pointed out that the World Cup represents an opportunity to deepen cooperation in various fields, including infrastructure, transportation, tourism and leisure, technological competencies, digital solutions, and health.

The forum’s opening was attended by Fawzi Lekjaâ, Minister Delegate in Charge of Budget and President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, and Antonio Garamendi, President of the Spanish Confederation of Employers’ Organizations.

The forum aims to promote opportunities for joint business, share best practices, encourage innovation, and maximize the long-term impact of World Cup-related investments. The event gathered Moroccan, Spanish, and Portuguese companies operating in sectors related to organizing major sporting events, from infrastructure and transportation to tourism and hospitality, as well as digital services and logistics.
