26th Edition of Caftan Week Kicks Off in Marrakech Under the Theme “The Spirit of the Atlas”
Marrakech is gearing up to host the 26th edition of “Caftan Week,” one of the most prominent annual events in Moroccan fashion, organized by “Women of Morocco” magazine, from May 7 to May 10. This new edition reaffirms the event’s status as a reference point that celebrates the Moroccan caftan as a symbol of identity, heritage, and creativity.
This year’s edition is held under the theme “The Spirit of the Atlas,” paying special tribute to the Atlas region as a cradle of traditions, a rich space for the transfer of knowledge and artisan authenticity, and a perpetual source of inspiration within the Moroccan imagination. This choice continues the vision that “Caftan Week” has embraced for years, following the silver jubilee edition in 2025, which focused on the Moroccan Sahara as a source of inspiration.
Through this theme, the edition provides a window into a rich source of creative concepts where landscapes, natural materials, and ancient artisanal knowledge interact harmoniously with a contemporary vision that blends innovation with loyalty to the authenticity of the Moroccan caftan, attempting to reinterpret this iconic attire with a modern spirit while preserving its roots.
The current edition comes in a special context, following the recognition of the Moroccan caftan as part of the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, a recognition that enhances the event’s cultural and civilizational significance and highlights Morocco’s efforts to safeguard this traditional attire and ensure its transmission across generations.
The organizers have shown great interest in involving designers in the grand show “Caftan 2026,” which reflects the ongoing connection of the Moroccan fashion scene to this event, serving as a platform for creative expression and the exchange of expertise. After a meticulous selection process, 13 designers have been chosen to participate in this edition, including: Salma Ben Omar, Mariam Bouafi, Moath Shafii, Zainab Fathi Idrabi, Zainab Ghazali, Sara Helali, Mao Lakhdar, Hind Lamtiiri, Huda Laarini, Asma Naaji, Salma Sanawi, Amal Souissi Aouad, and Imane Tdlawi.
These designers will present through their collections multiple interpretations of the spirit of the Atlas, merging textile heritage, artisanal mastery, and creative freedom in a harmonious dialogue between heredity and innovation that reflects the richness of the Moroccan caftan and its ability to renew and adapt to contemporary aesthetic transformations.
Alongside the grand show, the edition will feature a diverse program that includes exhibitions, meetings, masterclasses, and discussion sessions, spread across various venues in Marrakech, to promote values of interaction and knowledge transfer, and contribute to the radiance of the Moroccan caftan at both national and international levels.
The “Caftan 2026” show, scheduled for May 9, is expected to witness the presence of participating designers along with prominent figures from the art and media sectors and a wide audience of fashion enthusiasts, where exclusive collections will be presented specifically crafted for this occasion.
This edition builds upon the significant success of the 2025 edition organized under the theme “Caftan, Heritage Cloaked in Desert,” which confirmed the status of “Caftan Week” as a cultural and creative reference platform on both national and international levels.
