Morocco Raises Alert on Eastern Borders Following Provocative Algerian Movements

Tensions have resurfaced along Morocco’s eastern border after what Rabat described as “provocative and uncalculated” Algerian movements around the area of Ish in the Figuig region. This appears to be an attempt by the Algerian regime to test Morocco’s patience and impose a new reality on the ground.

Informed Moroccan sources confirmed that the Algerian actions included the placement of field markers and the removal of fences that were protecting the orchards of Moroccan farmers, a provocative act aimed at creating local tensions without any actual breach of borders. The sources also indicated that no Algerian military personnel approached Moroccan territory, exposing the exaggerations in the Algerian narrative and highlighting Morocco’s continued commitment to restraint.

In response, the Royal Armed Forces declared a state of alert in the region and deployed military units to sensitive points along the eastern border. These maneuvers serve as a clear message: Moroccan sovereignty is a red line, and Morocco is present on the ground and prepared to defend its territory without resorting to reckless military adventures.

These developments coincide with a series of hostile actions taken by Algeria against Morocco, ranging from severing diplomatic relations to exploiting border issues in its internal conflicts, while Morocco continues to pursue a lawful and legitimate approach, focusing on protecting its territory and the property of its citizens.

Moroccan authorities emphasized that Morocco will not concede an inch of its national territory and that the military alert was purely defensive, aimed at ensuring regional stability and protecting citizens in the face of attempts by the Algerian regime to provoke tensions without direct confrontation with its Moroccan neighbor.
