Morocco inaugurates its first pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale with a renewed artistic vision.

Venice – The Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication has announced Morocco’s participation in the 61st International Art Exhibition, “Venice Biennale 2026,” featuring its inaugural national pavilion at the heart of the Arsenale. The Moroccan pavilion presents its exceptional artistic project titled “Azita,” created by artist Amina Akzani and curated by Mariam Barada.

“Azita” is an artistic declaration that blends heritage and innovation, based on the concept of “threshold” as a space for transition and transformation. It serves as a platform for reflection on shared memory and the sustainability of Moroccan artisanal legacies. In the historical Artillery Hall, the work resonates with traditional practices and the craftsmanship passed down through generations, where the preparation transforms into a vessel connecting the land with its roots, linking the present with the past, crafting a new vision of Moroccan identity.

Artist Amina Akzani, who intertwines architecture with contemporary art, conveys traditional tales and movements through field workshops with local communities. She emphasizes that every stitch, braid, or twist carries a story, making “Azita” a second skin to the memory of the place, reflecting the profound relationship between land, body, and art.

For her part, Mariam Barada asserts that the project highlights artisans who often remain unseen, transforming the Moroccan pavilion into a vibrant visual language that resonates with the current theme “At Low Entries.”

The works of the Moroccan pavilion will be available to visitors from May 9 to November 22, 2026, offering a space to engage with contemporary Moroccan creativity and reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting arts and artists internationally, while enhancing the visibility of Moroccan culture within the global art scene.
