Minister Amel Filah Al-Saghroshni emphasized the seriousness of the rise of misinformation in the digital space during her participation in a high-level discussion held on the sidelines of the official dinner for the fifth session of the Digital Cooperation Organization, hosted by Kuwait.
The minister took part in the session alongside Sami Samir, the Jordanian Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, and Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Pakistan’s Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunications, under the theme: “Integrity at Scale: Ministerial Leadership in Combating Misinformation Online for a Trustworthy Digital Economy.”
During the discussion, the minister highlighted that the rapid development of modern technologies, particularly deepfake technologies, has exacerbated the risks of digital misinformation. She called for raising public awareness, enhancing monitoring and tracking mechanisms, and developing effective technological tools to address these emerging challenges.
She also presented several prominent international examples that illustrated the direct impact of misinformation on major events, emphasizing the urgent need for effective international cooperation and the establishment of responsible digital governance based on trust and transparency.
The session featured a rich dialogue that reflected a shared understanding of the scale of the challenges posed and the collective responsibility resting on governments and institutions to build a safe, reliable, and sustainable digital economy.
