FBR CABLES inaugurated its new industrial unit for the production of optical fiber cables in Berrechid on Monday, in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour.

The project, which has an overall investment of 200 million dirhams, will create 165 direct jobs. The new unit spans an area of 15,000 square meters and consolidates various activities of the company, increasing the annual production capacity to 70,000 kilometers of optical fiber cables, covering about 60% of the national market’s needs, estimated at between 120,000 and 130,000 kilometers annually.

In his speech, Mezzour emphasized that this 100% Moroccan unit enhances Morocco’s industrial and digital sovereignty, noting that the project aligns with royal directives aimed at strengthening the industrial and technological capabilities of the kingdom. It doubles national production capacity, solidifies the “Made in Morocco” brand, and positions the kingdom as a regional hub for exports to Africa.

For his part, the General Director of FBR CABLES, Youssef Jannat, explained that the factory is equipped with the latest technologies and has been established using Moroccan expertise and capital, with an annual production capacity of 70,000 kilometers encompassing optical fiber cables and network cables of categories 6, 7, and 8, making it one of the key facilities of its kind in Africa.

Jannat also mentioned that the company is strengthening its presence in West Africa through partnerships and currently exports to markets such as Guinea, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Gabon, as part of a South-South cooperation strategy that focuses on local production of high-value-added components that are transformed into final products, particularly optical fiber cables.

Founded in 1991 in Bouskoura, FBR CABLES meets a significant portion of the needs of national vendors such as Orange Morocco, Inwi, and Maroc Telecom. The company currently employs 124 direct staff and over 500 indirect positions through its network of suppliers and local partners, while also contributing to the training of national competencies through technology transfer programs and training initiatives in partnership with players in the telecommunications sector.
