Bolivia Withdraws Recognition of “Polisario” After Call Between Nasser Bourita and Fernando Aramayo

Bolivia has announced the suspension of its recognition of the so-called “Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic,” marking a new political shift for La Paz regarding the Western Sahara file.

The announcement came in an official statement following a phone call on Monday between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and his Bolivian counterpart Fernando Aramayo.

According to the information in the statement, Bolivia’s new position reflects an official review of La Paz’s policy on this issue, amid a rapidly changing international context regarding several countries’ positions on the regional dispute over Western Sahara.

This diplomatic development is expected to translate into a change in bilateral relations between Rabat and La Paz, especially in light of the momentum in Moroccan foreign policy in recent years, which has led to a reordering of various Latin American countries’ stances on the matter.
