Nizar Baraka Confirms Stability of Hydrological Situation in the Kingdom
Nizar Baraka, the Minister of Equipment and Water, chaired yesterday’s meeting of the daily vigilance committee at the ministry in Rabat, dedicated to monitoring and discussing the exceptional hydrological situation facing the Kingdom, with the attendance of sector officials and representatives from the pertinent water basins.
Baraka stated in a post on Facebook that the meeting addressed the management of water inflows and the proactive discharge operations at certain dams, in light of the noticeable increase in storage levels following recent rainfall.
The government official explained that a detailed presentation was made regarding the management of water inflows at dams that recorded high filling rates, discussing controlled discharge operations and emphasizing the necessity of enhanced coordination and close monitoring of dams, as well as studying various scenarios for proactive discharge.
The meeting highlighted the importance of considering weather forecasts when making appropriate decisions, ensuring the safety of water facilities and the effective management of water resources, particularly given the exceptional nature of the rainfall that was characterized by its intensity and concentration over short periods.
In this context, the Minister of Equipment and Water clarified that the current hydrological situation is controlled and stable.
Nizar Baraka also indicated that the Ministry of Equipment and Water continues, in accordance with royal directives and in coordination with local authorities, to implement necessary measures to protect citizens and ensure the safety of structures by conducting gradual discharge operations under close supervision as a precautionary safety measure.
