Appointment of Abdel Latif Al-Amrani as Acting General Treasurer Following Nour Eddine Bensouda’s 16-Year Tenure
Yesterday, the Ministry of Economy and Finance dismissed Nour Eddine Bensouda from his position as Director of the General Treasury after more than 16 years in office. He has been succeeded by Abdel Latif Al-Amrani, the Director General of Customs and Indirect Taxes, who will assume the role of Acting General Treasurer.
Al-Amrani, who previously managed the State Property Directorate, is known for his expertise in sensitive issues related to state assets and revenues. He enjoys the trust of all the officials he has worked with throughout his extensive career.
The dismissal decision comes at a time when the General Treasury is experiencing tension among its employees, who have expressed their outright rejection of what they describe as “hasty” decisions related to the implementation of Law 14.25 concerning local taxes. In a statement, they explained that reallocating 92 locations for officers and converting them into collective offices under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior was carried out without providing suitable alternatives, adversely impacting working conditions and affecting their professional dignity.
For his part, Bensouda expressed reservations about the implementation of the reform, asserting that these offices remain accounting centers within the legal and regulatory framework of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and have not been removed from the organizational structure. This reflects the disagreement between management and employees regarding the practical application of the reform.
