Aziz Akhannouch: Morocco’s Re-election to the African Peace and Security Council Affirms the Continent’s Trust in the Kingdom

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, expressed his pride in Morocco’s re-election for the third time as a member of the African Union Peace and Security Council, considering it a testament to the substantial trust the Kingdom enjoys within the African space.

During his participation in the 39th ordinary summit of African Heads of State and Government on February 14 and 15 in Addis Ababa, Akhannouch, who represented the King at the summit, affirmed that this election reflects the credibility of the Moroccan approach based on sincere cooperation, continuous consultation, and collaborative work rooted in solidarity and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

The Head of Government clarified that this renewed trust enhances Morocco’s position within African decision-making bodies, particularly in the Peace and Security Council, which serves as a crucial mechanism for preventing and resolving conflicts and consolidating stability on the continent.

Akhannouch pointed out that the Royal vision in addressing African issues, including migration, development, and security, is based on a comprehensive and humanitarian approach that links stability with integrated development, adopting proactive mechanisms to mitigate crises before they worsen.

He emphasized that achieving development goals in Africa depends on providing an environment of security and peace, stressing that the continuation of conflicts and uncertainty hinders any sustainable developmental progress, making the Peace and Security Council a fundamental framework for ensuring the necessary conditions for balanced and inclusive African development.

Akhannouch concluded his statements by reaffirming that Morocco, under the wise leadership of the King, will continue to play its active and responsible role within the African framework, committed to supporting security and peace and enhancing the path of shared development on the continent.
