Wydad Athletic Club officially announced on January 6, 2026, the signing of former French national team striker Wissam Ben Yedder on a contract lasting six months, with the option for an additional season.

This signing marks a significant move in the winter transfer market as Wydad seeks to strengthen its attacking line for local and continental competitions.

Wissam Ben Yedder (born August 12, 1990, in Sarcelles, France) is a French striker of Tunisian descent, with extensive experience in European football. He started his professional career in lower-tier clubs before attracting attention at Toulouse, where he shone and scored notable goals between 2010 and 2016. He then moved to Sevilla in 2016, followed by AS Monaco in 2019. In the 2019-2020 season, Ben Yedder finished as one of the leading scorers in Ligue 1 and was a key attacking figure for Monaco until 2024.

On the international stage, Ben Yedder represented the French national team in 19 matches, scoring three goals, which highlights his experience at the highest levels of global football. Before joining Wydad, he had stints with Sepahan in Iran and Sakaryaspor in Turkey, continuing to showcase his goal-scoring prowess.

Ben Yedder’s arrival provides both technical skill and valuable experience to Wydad’s squad, especially in the attack, which already includes prominent players like Hakim Ziyech and Nordin Amrabat. His contributions are expected to elevate the team’s performance in ongoing competitions and enhance the tactical options available to coaches during crucial matches.

From a tactical standpoint, signing Ben Yedder adds depth to Wydad’s offensive capabilities, given his ability to score, physicality in duels with defenders, and advanced tactical understanding derived from competing in major European leagues. His presence alongside professional forwards is likely to increase Wydad’s effectiveness in scoring and achieving the desired goals this season.
