The Belgian club Union Saint-Gilloise has officially terminated its contract with Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal by mutual consent, in an announcement made on January 5, 2026. This decision frees the player from any contractual obligations, allowing him to transfer to any other club during the current winter transfer window.
In its official statement, the club mentioned that the contract binding Boufal to the team, which was set to run until June 2026, has been immediately canceled by mutual agreement, without disclosing further details regarding the reasons behind the termination. The club expressed its gratitude to the player for his contributions to the team.
This development opens the door for the 32-year-old Boufal to explore his next destination, whether in the Moroccan league, another European league, or outside the continent. Since joining the Belgian side in September 2024 from the Qatari club Al Rayyan, Boufal has participated in 40 matches across various competitions.
Local media reports indicate increased interest from Moroccan clubs in signing Boufal during this winter season, given the competitive race for his services now that he is a free agent, placing him in a strong negotiating position in the player market.
