Turkish Anadolu Agency: Morocco Makes History in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations: An Extraordinary Tournament by All Standards

The Turkish Anadolu Agency published a report praising the remarkable success of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, describing the current edition as the best in the tournament’s history.

The report highlighted that Morocco managed to deliver a top-quality organization that included stadiums, hotels, and transport services, alongside achieving record numbers in terms of players, coaches, fans, and revenue.

Patrice Motsepe, president of the African Football Confederation, confirmed in statements to the agency that the Moroccan edition will remain a benchmark for future tournaments in terms of infrastructure quality and professional preparation.

The report noted that Moroccan sports researcher Rachid El-Fekraoui described Morocco’s organization as comparable to that of large countries hosting global sporting events. Meanwhile, Senegalese journalist Omar Talal stated that the tournament proves that sports have become a real industry contributing to the revitalization of the national economy.

The tournament saw the registration of 127 goals, a new record, and Egyptian international Mohamed Salah became the first player to score against 11 different national teams in the tournament’s history. Additionally, it achieved unprecedented revenue, increasing by 90% compared to previous editions, thanks to an increase in commercial partners, expanded media rights distribution, and the opening of new markets, including China and Japan.

The report asserted that Morocco’s selection to host the tournament resulted from its continuous success in organizing major sporting events, such as the 2018 African Nations Championship, the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2023 Club World Cup, reflecting its ability to combine excellent organization with technical and economic success.
