The National Vigilance Committee for managing and monitoring flood events highly praised the royal directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, regarding the immediate intervention of the Royal Armed Forces and the mobilization of significant human and logistical resources to support and assist the affected population. This is a clear manifestation of His Majesty’s special care for the protection of citizens’ lives, ensuring their safety, and maintaining security in the face of exceptional climate fluctuations.
This meeting, held on Friday at the Ministry of Interior, was attended by ministers and officials from various government sectors and institutions that are members of the committee. It served as an opportunity to discuss the current situation in the city of Ksar al-Kabir, monitor its field developments, assess the reported damage, and coordinate responses along with taking the necessary measures to protect the population and ensure the safety of citizens and their properties.
This meeting comes as part of the continuous and meticulous monitoring by public authorities of the repercussions of climate fluctuations affecting some regions of the kingdom, particularly in Ksar al-Kabir, following the exceptional floods caused by heavy rainfall and rising river levels. Moreover, it addressed the challenges associated with managing dam reservoir levels that have reached critical capacities due to significant water inflow.
During the meeting, discussions also focused on the measures aimed at enhancing the momentum of field interventions, strengthening vigilance dynamics, intensifying monitoring and assessment mechanisms, expanding the mobilization of human resources and logistical means, and ensuring the necessary equipment is available. Additionally, it emphasized strengthening coordination among various authorities and stakeholders and adopting qualitative measures to ensure effective and efficient interventions in the face of these challenging weather conditions.
In this context, measures were reviewed to control the rising water levels of the Loukkos and Sebou rivers and their associated channels, reduce the areas affected by flooding, and limit potential impacts on residents, properties, and infrastructure. This was carried out within a framework of tight and ongoing coordination among various stakeholders.
Participants emphasized the need to continue monitoring and closely observing the evolving situation while maintaining a state of maximum readiness for immediate intervention whenever necessary until weather conditions improve and these exceptional circumstances pass.
The meeting also reiterated the comprehensive mobilization of all public services and authorities and the continued efforts to support those affected, providing various forms of assistance to mitigate the impacts of these climate fluctuations and enhance public safety conditions.
In conclusion, attendees commended the spirit of responsibility and positive engagement that characterized the interventions of various actors, urging citizens, especially those living in affected areas, to exercise utmost vigilance, adhere to the directives of the relevant authorities, and avoid all forms of risk-taking to preserve lives and property, ensuring the safety of all.
