Rabat.. Presentation of a Guide for Sports Journalists to Embed Human Rights in Sports Journalism
The Ministry Delegate Responsible for Human Rights is organizing an introductory meeting on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, to present the “Sports Journalist’s Guide: For Sports Journalism Committed to Human Rights.” The meeting will commence at 3 PM at the High Institute of Communication and Media in Arouane, Rabat, where copies of the guide will be distributed to attendees.
This meeting takes place within a national and international context where the role of sports is increasingly recognized as a driver for development and social inclusion. It coincides with the Ministry’s support in organizing Morocco’s hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations and its preparations for major sports events, including its participation in the organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. According to the organizers, this presents a genuine challenge regarding the promotion of human rights in media discourse and journalistic practices, particularly in the sports field.
The objective of this meeting is to explain the background of the guide’s preparation, its objectives, and its general approach based on human rights principles. It aims to contribute to preventing manifestations of violence, hate speech, and discrimination within sports spaces, whether in media coverage or the public discourse associated with it.
The meeting will take the form of a presentation seminar, starting with Professor Mohamed Habib Balkhouch, the Minister Delegate Responsible for Human Rights, followed by Dr. Abdel Wahab Elrami, the guide’s author, who is a university professor and expert in media and communication skills development. There will also be an open discussion on the stakes of sports journalism committed to human rights, alongside remarks from the Ministry’s partners, including the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Population Fund.
Invitations to attend this meeting have been extended to professional journalists working in the sports sector, representatives of sports and professional media outlets, journalism students, sports stakeholders, national media representatives, and accredited journalists in Morocco, along with relevant government sectors and civil society actors. Officials from UN agencies that partner with the Ministry in the field of cooperation and capacity building in human rights will also be in attendance.
