Rabat Hosts Annual Tri-national Meeting of Police Chiefs from Morocco, Spain, and Germany

The capital city of Rabat hosted the annual tri-national meeting today, bringing together the directors general of police from Morocco, Spain, and Germany, marking a new phase in the strong cooperation among the three countries in the field of security.

This meeting gathered Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, with Francisco Pardo Piqueras, Director General of the Spanish National Police, and Dieter Romann, Director General of the German Federal Police. This comes as part of a working visit by the Spanish and German officials to Morocco, taking place from January 7 to 9.

According to a statement from the Directorate General of National Security and the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance, this meeting is part of a series of regular discussions among the three security leaders, initiated during the first meeting held in Madrid in January 2025. It aims to reinforce strategic coordination on issues of mutual security concern.

The agenda included an evaluation of cooperation and coordination levels in vital areas, primarily counter-terrorism, irregular migration, drug trafficking, and cybercrime, as well as enhancing coordination in sports security, especially with major sporting events on the horizon.

The attendees also discussed the evolving security situation in the Sahel and Sahara region and its implications for the movements of terrorist organizations within the Euro-Mediterranean space. They emphasized the necessity of maintaining advanced levels of information and operational data exchange to ensure security and stability at both regional and international levels.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to unify perspectives on expanding security cooperation and to explore possibilities for field integration in preparation for hosting global sporting events, particularly the 2030 World Cup.

In this context, the Spanish and German delegations reviewed the security and safety protocols established to secure the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations by visiting the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat. They were briefed on the facility’s equipment and the security arrangements in place, especially regarding the integration of digital technologies, public force deployment plans, and crowd management.

The visit also included the African Security Cooperation Center, where the delegations observed the technological capabilities and modern working methods that have positioned the center as a leading model for cooperation and integration among Moroccan sports security officials and African and foreign liaison officers.

The statement concluded that these regular tri-national meetings fall under a shared vision aimed at enhancing security partnerships to address transnational threats, focusing on immediate information sharing, expertise exchange, and operational and technical cooperation among the police and law enforcement agencies of the three countries.
