Morocco and Senegal Strengthen Their Multidimensional Partnership During the Fifteenth Session of the Joint High Commission

On Monday, January 26, 2026, in Rabat, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch held discussions with his Senegalese counterpart, Ousmane Sonko, during a working visit by the latter to Morocco, coinciding with the fifteenth session of the Moroccan-Senegalese Joint High Commission. The talks were attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Morocco’s Ambassador to Senegal, Hassan Nasri.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized the ongoing commitment of Morocco and Senegal to develop their partnership across multiple dimensions, aligning with the aspirations of the leaders of both countries, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President Bassirou Diomaï Fay.

The two parties affirmed their dedication to the spirit of brotherhood, solidarity, and mutual respect that characterizes Moroccan-Senegalese relations, highlighting the role played by the Moroccan community in Senegal and the Senegalese community in Morocco in enriching this distinguished partnership.

In this context, the Moroccan Prime Minister highlighted the close humanitarian, religious, and economic ties between the two nations, recalling the eight visits made by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Senegal, which have contributed to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly the pivotal role of Senegal in royal initiatives aimed at supporting development in Africa, including the royal initiative to enhance landlocked countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to highlight the significant leap in the exchange of ministerial visits between the two countries, enriching the legal framework governing cooperation, solidifying economic partnership, and boosting investments, especially since President Bassirou Diomaï Fay took office.

The fifteenth session of the Joint High Commission presents an opportunity to enhance sectoral cooperation between Morocco and Senegal through the establishment of structuring projects in agriculture, energy, trade, digital economy, and more, reflecting the shared desire of both countries to promote development and strategic partnership in Africa.
