Morocco and Senegal Strengthen Economic Partnership for a More Prosperous African Future

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, confirmed today in Casablanca that Morocco and Senegal share robust and sustainable investment relations covering a wide range of vital sectors.

Akhannouch made these remarks during the opening of an economic meeting on the sidelines of the fifteenth session of the Morocco-Senegal Joint High Commission for Partnership, in the presence of Senegalese Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko. The Head of Government described this partnership as a long-term commitment, reflecting a continuous presence in strategic sectors such as banking and insurance, building materials, mining, agricultural inputs, health, pharmaceuticals, real estate, and public works.

He noted that Senegal serves as a natural gateway for Moroccan businesses to West Africa, positioning itself as a central partner on the continent. Trade exchanges between the two countries reached approximately $300 million in the first ten months of 2025, while Moroccan investments in Senegal exceeded $540 million.

Akhannouch added that Morocco, thanks to the strategic vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has become the leading African investor in West Africa and the second-largest investor on the continent in less than fifteen years, emphasizing that this dynamic is driven by Moroccan companies capable of making investments and building sustainable, mutually beneficial partnerships.

The Head of Government also highlighted the importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area, asserting that the Morocco-Senegal partnership could be a catalyst for accelerating trade exchanges and encouraging investment, thereby enhancing competitiveness and creating job opportunities.

He reiterated Morocco’s commitment to strengthening its logistical and port platforms, pointing out that the Dakhla region on the Atlantic coast represents the future of maritime economy, industry, and exports for the kingdom, under the royal initiative to support Atlantic African countries and projects aimed at overcoming isolation for Sahel nations, where Senegal holds a pivotal position in this vision.

Akhannouch concluded by emphasizing the need to invigorate the economic momentum established in 2015 for better structuring and enhancing economic partnership relations.

The meeting, organized by the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development, in partnership with the Senegalese Agency for Investment Promotion and the Senegalese Employers’ Council, witnessed broad participation from ministers, business leaders, and economic and institutional stakeholders from Morocco and Senegal.
