Moroccan Tourism Achieves Record Numbers in 2025, Boosting Economic Growth

The Moroccan tourism sector has shown remarkable performance by the end of 2025, confirming the positive momentum of the Moroccan destination and enhancing its international appeal, according to data released by the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts.

The data indicated that the number of visitors crossing the borders reached a record level of approximately 19.8 million tourists by the end of 2025, marking an increase of 14% compared to 2024. Furthermore, the figures showed that these results exceed pre-crisis levels by 53% compared to 2019.

This strong performance is attributed to the noticeable recovery in key tourist-exporting markets, especially France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany, all of which recorded double-digit growth rates.

In terms of accommodation, overnight stays in classified hotels reached around 39.8 million nights by the end of November 2025, an increase of 9%. This development is due to an 11% rise in overnight stays by non-resident tourists, compared to a 4% increase among residents.

Regionally, Agadir recorded approximately 7.5 million overnight stays with an 11% increase, while Casablanca reached 2.9 million nights, registering a growth of 15%. Marrakech continued to lead national tourist destinations with over 12.4 million overnight stays, although the growth rate remained at just 3%.

Other destinations, including Tangier, Fez, Ouarzazate, Errachidia, and Rabat, also achieved positive results. Notably, both Essaouira and Al Haouz surpassed one million overnight stays for the first time, recording 1.1 and 1.3 million nights respectively, despite more modest growth rates.

Regarding travel revenues, these continued their upward trend throughout 2025, with increases exceeding 20% during the second and third quarters, accelerating further at the beginning of the fourth quarter. These revenues during the first eleven months of the year amounted to about 124.1 billion dirhams, reflecting an 18.7% increase compared to 4.7% during the same period last year.

This performance contributed to enhancing the added value of the tourism sector, which grew on average by 9.2% during the first nine months of 2025, underscoring the pivotal role of tourism as a fundamental driver of national economic growth.
