A comprehensive internet blackout in Iran and anticipation of an imminent Israeli military strike within hours
Tensions are escalating in the Middle East, with predictions of an impending Israeli military strike against military targets inside the Islamic Republic of Iran in the coming hours, according to various media sources and open-source intelligence reports.
In a notable development, Iran experienced a widespread internet outage this evening affecting the capital, Tehran, and several major cities. NetBlocks, a service specializing in internet monitoring, reported a complete nationwide disruption, while Reuters indicated the outage extended across Iran and some urban areas, with no official explanation for the interruption as of yet.
This blackout occurs in an extremely sensitive domestic context, marked by a rising number of protests throughout Iran and a significant death toll. According to Iran International and the Hebrew website Walla, the death toll may reach approximately 45 individuals so far, amidst a lack of confirmed official figures.
In parallel, another indicator has increased regional anxiety: Russia has begun evacuating its citizens from the occupied territories. The Hebrew website Rotter.net reported that the Russian army initiated an emergency evacuation for Russian embassy staff in Tel Aviv and their families, airlifting them to Russia.
Reports from Channel 14 in Israel noted that three evacuation flights were conducted in the past 24 hours, with a fourth flight taking place shortly before this report. Although no official announcement has been made by the Kremlin, local media described the evacuation as “quicker than usual,” raising questions regarding its true motivations.
Additionally, open-source intelligence reports on X indicated that the United States has been executing extensive military equipment transfers to the Middle East for several days. Flight tracking data revealed the movement of over 30 C-17 heavy transport aircraft towards bases in the region, along with refueling planes departing from Europe.
These rapidly unfolding developments heighten fears of a broader military escalation, amid official silence from the involved parties and a cautious watch on what the coming hours may bring for the entire region.
