China Launches Open Source AI Model to Support the Agricultural Sector
Nanjing Agricultural University has announced the launch of “Sinong,” the first large vertical language model dedicated to the agricultural sector and a significant step forward in artificial intelligence research and its applications in agriculture in China.
The model is equipped with a wide and organized array of agricultural data, covering areas such as animal science, agricultural economics and management, agricultural resources and environment, horticulture, smart agriculture, veterinary medicine, plant protection, and crop breeding.
The model derives its name from ancient Chinese officials responsible for agriculture and finance. It has been trained using approximately 9,000 books, more than 240,000 academic papers, 20,000 policy documents and standards, in addition to knowledge content available online.
“Sinong” is fully available on platforms such as “Model Scope” and “GitHub,” as part of an open-source strategy aimed at facilitating the application of AI in agriculture, enabling researchers, institutions, and developers to build upon it to collaboratively innovate and develop smart agricultural solutions.
