Aziz Akhannouch, the Head of Government, affirmed during the monthly accountability session in the House of Councillors on “Government Policy in the Field of Sports: Achievements and Challenges,” that sports in Morocco has evolved from being merely a competitive or recreational activity to a strategic tool for enhancing individual development and reinforcing social cohesion, thanks to the visionary directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Akhannouch explained that this transformation reflects the King’s ongoing commitment to the sports sector since ascending to the throne, as he has redefined sports from a comprehensive societal perspective that focuses on expanding the base of sports practice and ensuring various demographics benefit, rather than simply measuring success through the number of champions or medals.
The Head of Government added that the royal vision has made sports a central element in improving the quality of life, instilling values of discipline and citizenship, and serving as an effective means to strengthen social cohesion. It has also become a significant driver for comprehensive development and youth integration, aligning with the royal community project based on spatial justice, equal opportunities, and enabling citizens to live with dignity.
