Unpleasant news for smokers in Morocco: New increases in cigarette prices starting January 2026.
Smokers in Morocco received unwelcome news as the beginning of 2026 approaches. The General Directorate of Customs and Indirect Taxes has issued a new circular containing an updated list of prices for manufactured tobacco, set to take effect from January 1.
According to the circular, several popular cigarette brands widely circulated in the Moroccan market will see price increases ranging from one to two dirhams per pack. These increases are not limited to cigarettes alone; they also apply to cigars and other tobacco products, including heated tobacco products.
This step is part of the implementation of reforms to the internal consumption tax (ICT) on tobacco products, a reform approved in the 2022 finance law, which stipulates a phased tax increase from 2022 to 2026. According to the legislator, this gradual approach aims to strike a balance between enhancing state revenues and supporting public policies aimed at reducing tobacco consumption and protecting public health.
