Two Moroccan Plays Qualify for the Arab Theatre Festival in Cairo

The Arab Theatre Authority has announced the list of performances participating in the sixteenth edition of the Arab Theatre Festival, which will be held in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture in Cairo from January 10 to 16. The list includes two Moroccan plays.

The two Moroccan productions are part of the first category: “Windows 5” by “Art Friends,” written and directed by Ahmed Amin Sahl, and “Economic Citizen” by the Al-Fadan Theatre Troupe, written by Ahmed Al-Sabi and directed by Mahmoud Al-Shahdi. This category also features theatrical performances from the UAE, Qatar, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, and Kuwait.

In the second category, an Egyptian performance titled “Crime and Punishment” by the Actors’ Syndicate, inspired by Dostoevsky’s novel, has qualified. It was prepared and directed by Mahmoud Al-Husseini, following a competition involving 34 performances.

The authority clarified that the selection committee reviewed applications from 150 theatrical productions this year, including 116 that competed for the “His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi Award,” and selected only 16 performances to participate in both categories.

Ismail Abdullah, the Secretary-General of the Arab Theatre Authority, stated that the first category saw fierce competition in both quantity and artistic level, occupying the entire duration of the festival. He praised the scientific and artistic diligence of the committee, congratulating the participating Arab theatrical artists for their high-level performances.
