The Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council reaffirms support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and commends UN Security Council Resolution 2797

On Wednesday, the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reiterated its firm stance on Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, expressing the steadfast support of its member states for the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a realistic and final solution to the Sahara conflict.
In its closing statement at the conclusion of the 46th session held in Manama, the council welcomed the United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2797, issued on October 31, 2025, describing it as a significant step towards achieving a practical and feasible solution that reflects the increasing international recognition of the credibility of the Moroccan initiative.
The statement also praised His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s decision to present the autonomy initiative to the Security Council and to designate October 31 of each year as a national occasion named “Unity Day,” enshrining national harmony and embodying the royal commitment to securing the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.
This position reflects the unwavering commitment of GCC member states to support the Kingdom of Morocco, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in maintaining its sovereignty and territorial unity, emphasizing that support for the Moroccan cause is a fundamental pillar of Gulf policy towards the Kingdom.
