The National Commission for the Protection of Personal Data (CNDP) has issued a clarifying statement in response to comments attributed to some officials from the interim committee managing press and publication affairs regarding the failure to publish the lists of journalists holding professional press cards. This statement comes days after vague remarks from Abdellah Boucali, who attempted to imply that the failure to publish the list of professional journalists is linked to issues of personal data protection—a claim rejected by the constitutional body tasked with safeguarding these data.
In the same statement, the commission confirmed, for the sake of public clarity and to avoid any confusion, that it bears no responsibility for the non-publication of these lists, neither by the National Press Council nor by the interim committee.
The CNDP also emphasized that it has clearly stated on several occasions that it is not opposed to publishing the lists of journalists who benefit from professional press cards, denying any opposing stance in principle.
The commission concluded its statement by warning against being drawn into issues or discussions that fall outside its legal competencies and do not relate to its responsibilities concerning the protection of personal data. This statement raises significant questions about what Boucali might be concealing regarding these lists, especially with the National Press Council elections approaching.
