The House of Councillors unanimously approved, during a plenary session held today, Wednesday, the draft law No. 026.25 related to the reorganization of the National Press Council in its entirety.
The session witnessed varied political stances, with some opposition members calling for the law to be referred to the Constitutional Court after its approval. Meanwhile, the government stated that the law is part of efforts to enhance self-regulation in the journalism profession and to ensure its balance with rules of responsibility and professional ethics.
Mohamed Mehdi Ben Saïd, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, affirmed that the draft law was prepared in a participatory approach and based on “serious and responsible” work within the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee, considering that this reflects the level of democratic debate that characterized the legislative institution’s work.
