Larache Province: The Governor Leads a Broad Social Initiative on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The Mohamed Mouden meeting hall hosted a communication gathering on Wednesday morning, December 3rd, which was presided over by His Majesty the King’s representative in Larache Province, Mr. Samir Al-Yazidi. The event brought together numerous active associations in the field of disability, in honor of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The communication meeting, characterized by an open consultative atmosphere, was an opportunity to present the efforts made throughout the year in supporting individuals with disabilities and to discuss the challenges faced by associations and partner institutions. In his speech, the governor emphasized that promoting the rights of this group is a constant commitment, reflected in the programs of the National Initiative for Human Development and various sectoral interventions.

He highlighted the necessity of enhancing accessibility and providing suitable health, educational, and social services, stressing that effective integration requires continuous coordination between local communities and social institutions.

Several local associations attended the gathering, along with a group that included an Italian national, adding an extra dimension that reflects the diversity of experiences and the civil society’s interest in the issue. Representatives of these associations expressed their appreciation for the dynamism that the province is witnessing in addressing this file.

After the discussion, the governor led an official delegation on a field tour that included three social centers crucial to disability services in Larache, namely:

  • The Assistance and Guidance Center for Persons with Disabilities,
  • The “Trisomy 21” Center,
  • The Center for Persons with Disabilities.

During the visits, the provincial director of national cooperation, Mr. Rahal Fateh, provided detailed information about the rehabilitation, support, and care programs offered by these institutions, as well as the progress made during the current year.

On the sidelines of the tour, the governor supervised the distribution of electric and manual wheelchairs, along with blankets and mattresses, benefiting a group of recipients in a humanitarian initiative that was well received by families and community organizations.

Officials from the Ministry of Interior, the city’s district chief, heads of social departments, local elected officials, representatives from governmental agencies, and local media attended the event.

With these initiatives, Larache continues to reinforce a social approach based on proximity, listening, and fieldwork, making disability an open project that reflects the regional authorities’ commitment to ensuring the dignity and rights of this group.
