Security forces in the city of Ouarzazate, in close coordination with the General Directorate for National Territorial Surveillance, successfully thwarted a drug smuggling attempt in the early hours of Tuesday, December 23. The operation resulted in the seizure of 16 bundles of hashish, weighing approximately 458 kilograms.
This security intervention took place at a checkpoint on the national road linking Tinghir and Ouarzazate, where the occupants of an SUV attempted to evade security checks and displayed violent resistance, refusing to comply with police instructions. They also fired several shots without causing any injuries.
In response to the escalating situation, security personnel were compelled to use their service weapons as a precaution, which disabled the vehicle that veered off course and fell into a roadside ditch.
A search of the vehicle, which bore false license plates, led to the discovery of the seized hashish, along with about 20 grams of cocaine, bladed weapons, and a firearm magazine containing two rounds, in addition to six false license plates.
Authorities continue to conduct area sweeps around the intervention site, characterized by rugged mountain trails, in search of the vehicle’s occupants to apprehend them and subject them to judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with the aim of uncovering all criminal connections related to this case.
