Nigeria continues its perfect run, overcoming Tunisia with an impressive 3-2 victory to secure qualification for the round of 16.
The Nigerian national team delivered a strong performance in the Africa Cup of Nations, achieving its second consecutive win, this time against the Tunisian team in the second round of group stage matches, held in Morocco.
On the pitch at the sports complex in Fez, the Nigerian team established dominance in the first half and managed to convert their advantage into a goal just before the break, with star player Victor Osimhen scoring a precise header from a well-placed cross by Ademola Lookman in the 44th minute.
As the second half commenced, the “Super Eagles” maintained their pressure, quickly adding a second goal through Wilfred Ndidi, who capitalized on a corner executed by Lookman, heading the ball into the net in the 50th minute.
Ademola Lookman shone with an impressive performance, providing two key assists before marking his name on the scoresheet, netting Nigeria’s third goal in the 67th minute after receiving a pass from Osimhen.
Despite falling behind, the Tunisian team did not give up and managed to reduce the deficit in the 74th minute with a header from Montassar Talbi following a set piece delivered by Hannibal Mejbri. The “Carthage Eagles” reignited the match by scoring their second goal from a penalty kick by Ali Abdi in the 87th minute, but their comeback proved incomplete.
Nigeria began its tournament journey with a victory over Tanzania (2-1), while Tunisia had triumphed in their opening match against Uganda (3-1).
In the second match of the same group, Uganda and Tanzania drew 1-1 in a game held at Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat. Tanzania took the lead first with a penalty from Simon Msuva (59) before Uche Ikpeazu equalized for Uganda in the 80th minute. Alan Okello missed a penalty in stoppage time, denying Uganda a valuable win.
Following these results, Nigeria stands alone at the top of Group C with 6 points, followed by Tunisia with 3 points, while Tanzania and Uganda are tied for third and fourth place with 1 point each.
