National Security foils attempt to smuggle over eight tons of cannabis resin at the Port of Tangier Med
Joint border monitoring operations between the National Security and Customs at the Port of Tangier Med on Thursday, December 25, 2025, resulted in the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle eight tons and 196 kilograms of cannabis resin aboard an international freight transport truck.
The General Directorate of National Security clarified that the shipment was carefully packed in plastic tubes within the Moroccan-registered truck, which was preparing to depart on a maritime journey to a European port. The drugs were fully extracted during the operation.
The truck driver, a 50-year-old Moroccan national, has been subjected to judicial investigations ordered by the relevant public prosecutor to uncover all circumstances surrounding the case and to track the national and international extensions of this criminal activity.
This operation is part of intensified efforts by security services at border centers to combat international drug smuggling networks and reflects the ongoing vigilance of security agencies in safeguarding public security and combating organized crime.
