Morocco ranks 84th globally and 62nd in Africa on the Sustainable Competitiveness Index

According to a recent report by the independent research center SolAbility, Morocco has achieved an 84th global rank and 62nd in Africa on the Sustainable Competitiveness Index for 2025, scoring 46.82 out of 100. This reflects an average performance in achieving economic development that considers social, environmental, and institutional dimensions.

The report evaluates 192 countries worldwide, placing Morocco among those with medium performance, away from both the highest-performing category and the most vulnerable countries in terms of sustainable competitiveness.

The report highlights that Morocco has made notable progress in intellectual capital and innovation, ranking 62nd globally, surpassing African countries such as Tunisia (95) and South Africa (127), despite a clear gap with leading nations in education, research, and technology.

The Sustainable Competitiveness Index is based on six main dimensions: intellectual capital, natural capital, social capital, economic sustainability, governance, and resource efficiency. The report reveals that Morocco faces structural challenges in water, energy, and governance, while showing average performance in economic and social sustainability.

The report also indicates that Morocco, like most African countries, can enhance its global standing through balanced investments in education, innovation, natural resource protection, governance improvement, and social cohesion over the coming years.

Furthermore, the report shows that 84% of countries worldwide have not yet achieved satisfactory sustainable levels, with Northern European countries dominating the top ranks. This underscores the need for integrated policies that combine economic growth, social justice, and environmental protection to achieve sustainable development.
