The 19th World Water Conference kicked off today in Marrakech under the theme “Water in a Changing World: Innovation and Adaptation.”

This conference, organized under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and in partnership with the Ministry of Equipment and Water and the International Water Resources Association, will run until December 5. It presents an opportunity to explore innovative solutions, strategies, and adaptive approaches to managing water resources in an ever-changing world.

The event will serve as a platform for experts, practitioners, researchers, decision-makers, civil society, and the private sector to exchange knowledge, showcase innovative research, establish partnerships, and develop shared practical solutions aimed at addressing the complex challenges related to water governance, security, and sustainability on a global scale.

Moreover, the conference aims to enhance cooperation between governments, universities, civil society, and the private sector, highlighting Morocco’s expertise in water resource management, especially in arid environments, desalination, and unconventional water resources.

This edition emphasizes the necessity of innovation in water resource management, the ability to adapt to environmental, societal, and economic changes, and the importance of ensuring the resilience of water use, governance, and related infrastructure. It will spotlight how to integrate these core elements into long-term sustainable solutions for water management in a constantly changing environment.

The agenda for the 19th World Water Conference includes, in particular, a ministerial roundtable, four high-level discussion sessions, and over 140 technical sessions presented by international experts, along with parallel events to deepen discussions on specialized topics and a wide exhibition space dedicated to showcasing the latest technologies and innovative water projects.

The conference will conclude with the Marrakech Declaration, a collective call bringing together decision-makers, scientists, and practitioners to strengthen the link between science, policy, and action, and to accelerate global mobilization for water conservation.
