Marrakech Hosts Awareness Day on Road Safety Risks

An awareness day on road safety risks was held yesterday at the Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah Faculty of Science in Marrakech, aimed at students and young drivers. This initiative was organized by the Regional Directorate of the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) for Marrakech-Safi in collaboration with the faculty.

This initiative falls within the framework of promoting a culture of road safety and enhancing preventive measures among young road users to reduce traffic accidents and protect future generations.

In his speech, the President of Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, Belaid Boukadir, emphasized that this meeting aims to raise awareness among young people about road dangers and instill safe reactions from an early age, reminding attendees that wearing a helmet is not merely a formality but a preventive measure that can save lives in the event of an accident.

Mr. Boukadir noted that road safety is a collective responsibility, stressing the need for students, future professionals, and community stakeholders to be fully aware of the risks associated with traffic, which necessitates adopting responsible behaviors on the road.

He added that “these initiatives contribute to enhancing the culture of protection within educational institutions and spreading civic values to reduce traffic accidents and their severe consequences on society.”

For his part, Ali Lakharouf, the Regional Director of the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) for the Marrakech-Safi region, highlighted the agency’s commitment to road safety, explaining that the traffic code is not just an organizational necessity but a responsibility above all.

He pointed out that raising awareness among youth and distributing approved protective helmets are tangible measures to reduce the number of traffic accidents and their dire effects, emphasizing that respecting speed limits, wearing helmets, and adopting cautious driving style are simple yet effective ways to protect lives.

The program of this awareness day included educational segments on road risks, the distribution of approved motorcycle helmets to students, and discussions on best practices to follow.
