Hamouchi Receives the New Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism in Rabat

The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, received Mr. Alexander Zuev, the new Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, in Rabat today, Monday. This meeting is part of Mr. Zuev’s working visit to Morocco.

During the meeting, they discussed the challenges arising from the increasing terrorist threats in global hotspots, particularly in the Sahel, Sahara, the Horn of Africa, Syria, and Afghanistan. They also addressed ways to enhance cooperation between Morocco and the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism in preventing and combating violent extremism.

The two parties also talked about coordinating regional and international initiatives to combat terrorism, including collaboration to secure major sporting events against terrorist risks and threats. Mr. Zuev expressed his desire to learn from Morocco’s experience in this area, considering it a cornerstone for strengthening international efforts against terrorist organizations and preventing them from gaining safe havens or sources of funding.

The statement noted that this meeting reflects Morocco’s commitment to strengthening security cooperation mechanisms, both bilaterally and multilaterally, and highlights its position as a reliable and influential partner in UN initiatives to combat terrorism and extremism.
