Fez Launches a New Urban Transport Fleet of 154 Modern Buses

The Wali of the Fez-Meknes region and the governor of Fez, Khaled Aït Taleb, officially launched a new urban transport fleet consisting of 154 modern buses in Fez on Monday. This initiative is part of the implementation of a new model for delegated management of urban transport in the city.

This project is included in a comprehensive program featuring a total of 268 buses that will be gradually integrated into the city’s fleet, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and various institutional stakeholders, including the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, the Fez governorate, and the Fez municipality, aimed at modernizing public transport services and improving their quality for users.

Abdelwahid El Ansari, President of the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, stated in an interview with the Maghreb Arab Press that this project was achieved with a total investment exceeding 620 million dirhams, with the regional council contributing approximately 230 million dirhams. He confirmed that the program will also encompass the cities of Meknes, Taounate, and Taza, and aims to implement royal directives aimed at enhancing the quality of public services and ensuring spatial equity.

For his part, Mohamed Amin Al-Sqqat, General Director of the “Isal Fes” company, highlighted that the first batch of 154 buses marks the actual commencement of strengthening the urban offering, noting that these 12-meter-long buses meet international standards and facilitate access for individuals with disabilities. They are also equipped with advanced ticket verification systems and digital solutions for purchasing tickets online, enhancing service quality and improving user experience.

Abdel Salam Boukali, President of the Fez Municipal Council, emphasized that this project promotes integrated local development by improving urban transport and connecting various neighborhoods to the city center, hospitals, sports facilities, and shopping centers. He added that the new management model is based on communal ownership of the bus fleet and includes 13 neighboring municipalities within a radius of 20 to 40 kilometers, marking a qualitative step in modernizing cities and supporting territorial development.
