Burkina Faso Reaffirms Support for the Territorial Integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco

Burkina Faso has renewed its steadfast and ongoing support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. This affirmation comes in light of the United Nations Security Council’s historic adoption of Resolution 2797, which recognizes the Moroccan autonomy plan as a serious, credible, and sustainable basis for resolving the issue of Western Sahara.

The confirmation was made by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabé Abroad, Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, during talks with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, on the sidelines of the International Conference for African Victims of Terrorism held on December 2 and 3 in Rabat.

Traoré underscored Burkina Faso’s support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative, considering it the only credible and realistic solution to the conflict. He also praised his country’s establishment of a consulate in Laayoune on October 23, 2020, a step that reflects its ongoing commitment to Morocco.

For his part, Bourita expressed deep appreciation for Burkina Faso’s firm and unwavering position, describing it as a reflection of the profound historical and exceptional relations between the two countries.
