Brussels Expands Sanctions on Russian Ships

European Union foreign affairs and security policy chief, Josep Borrell, announced that the EU will add 40 ships to its sanctions list against Russia.

In statements to reporters on Monday, ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, Borrell said, “We have made decisions, or will make decisions today, regarding ships in the shadow fleet. We have 40 additional ships that will be added, along with supporters, with the aim of depriving Russia of means to finance the war.”

Furthermore, Borrell mentioned: “The preferred option (for financing Ukraine) is a compensation loan; this is what we are working on. We haven’t reached that point yet. It’s complicated, but we are doing our work. We still have a few days ahead of us.”
