Athens to Host First “Atlas” Mediterranean Cultural Dialogue Forum
Athens is set to host the inaugural session of the International Mediterranean Forum “Atlas” from December 1 to 3, organized by the Moroccan Embassy in Greece in collaboration with the Municipality of Heraklion. The event is themed: “The Mediterranean: A Space for Cultural Communication and Unifying Visions Between Its Shores,” aimed at revitalizing and enhancing cultural, historical, and intellectual dialogue among the countries in the region.
The forum’s program focuses on two main axes; the first examines the Mediterranean as a historically rich space fostering exchanges between civilizations and its communities, while the second aims to sketch a shared vision for the future of the region by discussing issues related to identity, culture, migration, climate, media, and regional cooperation.
Researchers, experts, and diplomats from various Southern and Northern Mediterranean countries will participate in the event to enrich the discussions, workshops, and roundtables. The event will also feature a visual arts exhibition showcasing the works of Mediterranean artists, including international artist Carmad, to highlight the role of creativity in fostering intercultural dialogue.
The goal of the “Atlas” Forum transcends merely organizing a one-off event; it seeks to establish an annual or semi-annual tradition to deepen shared thinking across the Mediterranean. This initiative mirrors Morocco’s desire to cement its position as a pivotal player in promoting cultural, intellectual, and diplomatic exchanges within the Mediterranean space.
Significance for Morocco
The organization of this forum in Athens reflects the vibrancy of Moroccan cultural diplomacy and its quest to strengthen ties between Morocco, the Arab world, and Europe. By investing in cultural, intellectual, and artistic dialogue, Morocco enhances its position as a bridge for communication within the Mediterranean basin, providing a platform to rethink shared challenges such as migration, identity, climate change, media, and heritage, under a unified vision among the region’s countries.
