A Safi: Emergency Meeting to Activate Urgent Measures to Mitigate Flood Damage
An emergency meeting was held today, Monday, at the headquarters of the provincial administration of Safi, in response to the flooding and exceptional rainfall that the city experienced, resulting in varying human and material losses.
The meeting was chaired by the governor of the Marrakech-Safi region, Khalif Al-Hbib, in the presence of the provincial head of Safi, Mohammed Fattah, the president of the regional council, as well as regional security authorities and officials from the relevant decentralized services. They reviewed the overall situation in the city and its impact on the affected residents.
Assessing the extent of the damage recorded in the different neighborhoods affected by the floodwaters was a central topic of discussion, along with considering a range of urgent measures aimed at alleviating the effects of the floods and ensuring the safety of citizens and the protection of their properties.
Participants in the meeting emphasized the need for comprehensive mobilization of various human and logistical resources and enhancing coordination among all stakeholders, while maintaining a high level of vigilance and implementing measures to address the consequences of this disaster as swiftly as possible, alongside providing necessary support and assistance to those affected.
According to local authorities, the toll from the heavy rainfall that struck the region on Sunday evening has risen to 37 deaths, due to strong and sudden floodwaters.
Efforts by public authorities, civil protection services, and law enforcement continue, involving field searches, rescue operations, and providing essential medical assistance and support to the affected residents.
