Agadir is hosting the main meeting to prepare for the “African Lion 2026” exercise, with broad international participation.

The meeting is taking place at the Southern Region Command Headquarters in Agadir from December 8 to 12, featuring military teams and representatives from several countries, primarily Morocco and the United States.

This gathering aims to coordinate operational details related to the upcoming edition of the largest military exercise in Africa by discussing interoperability, logistical support, and the integration of forces across different branches—ground, air, and naval—as well as special operations units. The meeting emphasizes the exchange of experiences and refinement of joint intervention scenarios to ensure a higher state of readiness for the 2026 event.

Available data indicates that the “African Lion” exercise will be conducted between April 20 and May 8, 2026, at sites in Agadir, Tan-Tan, Taroudant, Kenitra, and Beni Mellal. This initiative is part of a vision to enhance cooperation among participating nations, improve field readiness, and strengthen the ability to conduct joint operations in diverse environments.

Recent figures from the last five editions, which involved over 40,000 military personnel, highlight the significance of this annual event and its impact on solidifying military partnerships and supporting regional security and stability, thus reaffirming Morocco’s role as a key player in defense cooperation in the region.
