Justice Minister Abdellatif Wahbi announced a new initiative aimed at facilitating the reintegration of former prisoners into society. He clarified that inmates who have benefited from rehabilitation and integration programs and obtained recognized certificates will be able to receive a criminal record certificate free of previous convictions, enabling them to access the job market and rebuild their lives after serving their sentences.
During a question-and-answer session in the House of Representatives on Monday, November 3, 2025, Wahbi explained that this measure is part of a review of the conditions for presenting a judicial record for citizens who have previously served a prison sentence, aimed at supporting their professional and social reintegration opportunities.
The minister added that beneficiaries of alternative sanctions will also receive “restorative justice,” emphasizing that the ministry is working on digitizing this process. The information system will automatically remove the conviction from the judicial record after a specified period, provided no new crime is committed.
Wahbi also revealed that his ministry is developing a specialized electronic program to implement this mechanism automatically as soon as possible, along with establishing a national criminal records center in Casablanca to correct data and monitor the process.
The minister stressed that these reforms aim to ensure justice for numerous citizens who still suffer the consequences of sentences they served many years ago, asserting that the goal is to provide them with a fresh start that preserves their dignity and supports their reintegration into society.
