UNESCO Celebrates World Science Day Under the Theme “Trust and Transformation for Tomorrow: The Science We Need for 2050”
Today, Monday, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) celebrates the World Science Day for Peace and Development, organized this year under the theme “Trust and Transformation for Tomorrow: The Science We Need for 2050.”
This occasion aims to highlight the pivotal role of science in daily life and to encourage broader dialogue among researchers, decision-makers, and citizens regarding the major scientific issues confronting the contemporary world.
This year’s celebration comes in the context of the United Nations General Assembly declaring the period 2024-2033 as the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development. According to UNESCO, the 2025 edition presents an opportunity to rethink the relationship between science and society and to envision the characteristics of future science capable of addressing the looming environmental, technological, and social challenges.
The organization emphasized that this initiative seeks to enhance public trust in scientific research and to foster a deeper awareness of its role in building a more sustainable and humane future. The occasion also serves as a moment to appreciate the efforts of scientists in enriching human knowledge and contributing to the development of stronger and more peaceful communities.
