Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced his intention to implement strict measures to end immigration from what he labeled “third-world countries” to the United States. This decision comes in the wake of a shooting incident near the White House that resulted in the death of a National Guard service member.
Trump made these remarks in a post on the Truth Social platform during Thanksgiving, revealing plans to tighten immigration policies. These plans include the cancellation of all federal benefits and aid designated for non-citizens, revocation of millions of approved immigration applications made during Joe Biden’s administration, as well as the removal of anyone who does not represent genuine value to the United States.
He clarified that the measures would involve stripping migrants who threaten domestic security of their citizenship and deporting anyone deemed a burden to the state, posing a security risk, or incompatible with “Western civilization.” Trump criticized migrants, describing most as dependent on social services, coming from failing states, or having criminal records, mental health issues, or affiliations with gangs or drug networks.
The announcement followed the killing of the service member by an Afghan national who had previously worked with the CIA in Afghanistan and was relocated to the United States under a resettlement program after the American withdrawal from Afghanistan.
In the wake of the incident, Trump declared an immediate halt to processing immigration applications from Afghanistan and revealed a comprehensive review of the residency status of migrants from 19 countries he deemed “concerning,” including Afghanistan, Iran, Libya, and Yemen.
