Al-Skouri: The Welfare of Workers is Key to the Sustainability of Moroccan Enterprises
The Minister of Economic Integration, Small Enterprises, Employment, and Skills, Younes Al-Skouri, asserted yesterday in Casablanca that the welfare of workers serves as a pillar for development and a guarantee for the sustainability of enterprises, and should be at the heart of national priorities.
This statement was made during the minister’s speech at a seminar on the strategy of the National Institute of Occupational Life Conditions, held in conjunction with the International Conference and Exhibition on Occupational Health, Safety, and Protection of People and Property, “Preventika.”
Al-Skouri emphasized the need for a collective mobilization to ensure occupational health and safety, highlighting the importance of promoting decent, healthy, and safe working conditions. He considered that occupational health and safety are vital drivers of economic competitiveness and sustainable development.
He pointed out that Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is witnessing an unprecedented economic dynamic that must be accompanied by a greater commitment to ensuring the health and safety of workers. The minister indicated that the number of workplace accidents is on the rise, necessitating an intense mobilization of all stakeholders to instill a true preventive culture within enterprises.
In this context, Al-Skouri affirmed the necessity of increasing the number of health and safety committees and ensuring their effectiveness. He argued that occupational health and safety do not only involve the prevention of physical accidents but also encompass the mental and psychological well-being of workers who are increasingly subjected to stress and professional pressure. He called for special attention to be given to working women and for preventive measures and welfare programs to be tailored to their specific needs.
Strategy of the National Institute of Occupational Life Conditions
During the seminar, the Director of the National Institute of Occupational Life Conditions, Faiza Amharrouk, presented the institution’s strategy, confirming that the institute aims, through this strategic plan, to position itself as a reference center and a national hub in the fields of prevention, training, research, innovation, and occupational health and safety.
She explained that this strategy is founded on an integrated and comprehensive sectoral approach developed to meet the specific needs of each sector through partnerships with economic federations and women’s professional associations. Amharrouk added that the strategy pays special attention to priority sectors, including construction, public works, health, mining, agriculture, handicrafts, transportation, and tourism, given their economic importance and the occupational risks they entail, especially with the approach of the 2030 World Cup.
