Achraf Hakimi is making an extraordinary effort to regain his fitness and return in time to participate in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sources from the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, led by Nasser Larguet, who has been with Hakimi since the beginning of his career, revealed that the player is undergoing nearly six hours of rehabilitation daily at a specialized center in Spain, aiming for full readiness before the continental championship kicks off.
Larguet explained in a statement to RMC Sport that the player is:
“He is intensifying his efforts significantly and working at a high pace to be ready to help the national team.”
He emphasized that Hakimi’s determination and desire to be part of the squad are key factors in accelerating his recovery process.
Hakimi suffered a severe injury to his left ankle during Paris Saint-Germain’s match against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League earlier this month, due to a rough tackle from Colombian player Luis Díaz, forcing him to leave the field limping. The Parisian club later confirmed that it was a severe ankle sprain, requiring a recovery period of six to eight weeks according to initial medical assessments.
Paris Saint-Germain is managing Hakimi’s condition with great caution, with continuous coordination between the club’s medical staff and the Moroccan national team’s medical team, given the sensitivity of the injury for a player who relies heavily on speed, power, and pace changes in his performance.
Meanwhile, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation monitors the situation of the right-back daily, while national coach Walid Rekragui insists that Hakimi’s participation in the tournament will depend solely on achieving full fitness to avoid any risks that could jeopardize his path during the competition or revert his injury to square one.
The technical staff of the national team hopes, if the player’s condition improves over the coming weeks, to gradually program his return in sync with the match schedule, allowing him to enter the African competition at the best possible pace without putting pressure on his ankle or rushing the healing process.
Between cautious optimism and an intensive treatment program, Achraf Hakimi’s decision to participate in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations remains contingent on the evolution of his physical condition, as the player races against time to meet the eagerly awaited event by Moroccan fans.
