The Public Prosecution Directorate Holds a Communication Meeting on Developments in the Criminal Procedure Law
As part of the Public Prosecution Directorate’s efforts to implement Law No. 03-23, which amends and supplements Law No. 22.01 concerning the criminal procedure, Mr. Hicham Belaloui, the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation and President of the Public Prosecution, chaired a national communication meeting this Wednesday morning in the conference hall of the headquarters in Rabat. The meeting brought together Attorneys General and public prosecutors from various courts across the kingdom under the slogan: “The Role of the Public Prosecution in Implementing Developments in the Criminal Procedure Law.”
During this meeting, the constitutional roles assigned to the Public Prosecution in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of individuals and communities were reviewed. The discussion highlighted the ways to implement the new legal provisions at all stages of the public prosecution, starting from receiving complaints and overseeing criminal investigations, proceeding to conducting prosecutions, monitoring trials, and finally executing penalties.
The meeting also served as an opportunity to unify perspectives among different public prosecution offices to ensure a smooth and accurate application of the new law’s contents, emphasizing the need to keep in mind the legislator’s philosophy and objectives in enhancing the principles of a fair trial.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Public Prosecution Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to organize training sessions and issue thematic circulars for public prosecutions to clarify some of the new developments, all aimed at enhancing criminal justice and ensuring the rule of law, in line with the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him.
