The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water has launched the initial selection phase for companies interested in executing a massive project involving the installation of approximately 1,000 kilometers of ultra-high voltage electricity lines to connect Boujdour in the south to Tansift in the center of the country. This project is considered one of the most significant steps to strengthen the electricity transmission network and accelerate the energy transition that the Kingdom is adopting.

Through this line, the office aims to secure the transmission of nearly 2,000 megawatts of renewable energy generated in the south to the central region, a move that will support supply stability and expand the integration of wind and solar projects within the national grid. The deadline for submitting qualification requests is set for January 15, 2026, with the new facility expected to be operational by the end of 2028.

This project falls within a series of initiatives led by the National Office of Electricity, including a new electricity transmission line using direct current, representing a continuation of the national vision aimed at modernizing the electrical infrastructure and enhancing the role of renewable energies in the energy mix.

It is anticipated that this line will contribute to increasing the grid’s capacity to meet the growing electricity demand and provide better conditions for integrating clean energies, alongside its role in boosting the economic and industrial development of the areas it will traverse by providing reliable and high-quality energy.
