Moroccan Interior Minister Meets French Counterpart to Enhance Security and Migration Cooperation

Moroccan Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit held bilateral talks today in Marrakech with his French counterpart, Laurent Nuñez, addressing various issues of mutual interest between their ministries.

A statement from the Interior Ministry highlighted that the meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to review the foundations of bilateral cooperation in the fields of security and migration, based on mutual trust and ongoing exchange, and reinforced by converging perspectives on strategic matters.

The two ministers emphasized that this cooperation aligns with the exceptional partnership declared by His Majesty King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron during the state visit in October 2024.

In the area of migration, the ministers reaffirmed the effective role of the Moroccan-French Joint Permanent Group on Migration as a suitable mechanism for dialogue and coordination on migration-related issues.

The discussion also focused on ways to enhance the exchange of expertise and information between the two sides, ensuring their capacity to address multiple threats, particularly those linked to the activities of terrorist groups and criminal networks in the Sahel and Sahara region.
